Our Kind

We were the play-it-safe travelers
those right lane in Georgia
for a right turn in Florida kinda folks
loving the unrocky boat.
Ex-nay to new faces
hyper self examination
avoiding self revealing
another chance for loss
lost to curtains kept closed
invitations declined
and of course
never proffered.
Too self contained
to open a door
welcome the world
skipping away to the
everything else that ultimately
there isn’t.
